              OUTREACH the newsletter of 74 7 miat wtwiat wiat wt at 5t sfriwd taw tzu tzw MARCUS BACH DIRECTOR NO 32 THE LETTER dear friend when we launched our international photo contest six months ago we knew we had an exciting idea we expected great things of this project and we looked forward eagerly to the pictures that would be entered our expectations were great our enthusiasm intense even so we were unprepared for the overwhelming flood of entries we received the pictures came in slowly at first only a few each week then a few each day finally our post office box the largest size available would no longer hold the mail in all we received over 1000 pictures from 17 countries and from 41 of our 50 united states all of them answered in their own very personal way our question how would you represent in a photograph the concept of spiritual understanding carol kinnon was in charge of the contest with rare public relations skill and a highly limited budget she got the word into magazines newspapers churches and schools across america and abroad I 1 dont know how so much was accomplished with so little but it was soon we began receiving inquiries about the contest from as far away as israel and india people also wanted to know about the foundation they were sent complimentary copies of OUTREACH hundreds of photography buffs intrigued by the idea of their profession or hobby as a means of spiritual understanding subscribed to our newsletter the deluge of entries contained many surprises for one thing the quality of the pictures was exceptionally fine many were obviously professional and a great many were the work of highly talented amateurs some were tricky elaborate dramatically staged and photographed using sophisticated subjects lighting and developing procedures others were equally impressive in their simplicity every single one of the thousand pictures presented the unique individual expression of the photographers concept of spiritual understanding
