OUTREA OUTREACH the newsletter of 7 74 e 57e1& etuwcfr M T sfoituat ueletcuuum mtewatceat MARCUS BACH founder no ill 111 ili lii THE LETTER dear friend of the fellbwship feubwsh fellowship it occurred tome to me th the other day that the bicentennial would be a good time to look back over ones life ilfe iloe and see how it relates to america in in a special way the year 1776 certainly deserves observance without it we would not conceivably be where we are as a nation but there is is no one around who actually lived at that time and out information must necessarily be based on tradition legend hearsay and faith in our historian historians sl I 1 all of which t is fair enough and lets make the most of it but when it comes to a review of the celebration OF SELF and an inside look at oneself as is an individual thats a flag of another color with its own stars and stri stripes pesl some punster might even say scars and swipes I 1 got to thinking that just as every state has its own on flag and some organizations have their own flags so there may also be a personal flag under which each individual is sailing to be specific I 1 mean to say look back over your life fife ilfe hife hioe and see how certain events that you have encountered relate to bigger events that havamade haw have hav made amade you what you are in many of my workshops I 1 ask for a show of hands of those who somewhere during life fife ilfe hife ran into circumstances that got them down I 1 ask the question how many of you yu have ever gone through something that you thought you would bever never never recover from somethi methi so something you were sure you would never get over when I 1 ask this question nearly every mature person raises his or her hand then I 1 ask in looking back over that event how many of you now realize that the happening contained a moment of growth and newspiritual new spiritual understanding almost every hand goes up it is thrilling to realize how we can meet life if we keep our faith and trust trust crust in good and god the lesson in this issue of OUTREACH touches upon one idea out of my own experience not a despairingexperience despairing experience but rather a pleasant nostalgic one perhaps it will trigger some reflection out of your life some remembrance thought happe happening something happy not sad commonplace not spectacular something homespun or whatever after all it if is a bicentennial year so hoist your flag yours in the spirit of 76
