OUTREACH EA the newsletter of 7 eggl etuiifo etUi caa ifo dao T sfoitual autu cutu cU tU mtywomot MARCUS BACH founder NO 146 THE LETTER dear friend of the fellowship world events are moving ever raster faster the eyes and ears of the media are everywhere dramatically reporting more than we want to hear we have a feeling that it is all happening to us the acceleration of time adds to our sense of personal involvement Is time running out even college students shrug and say maybe it is or time sure flies as if this has always been the case maybe it has changes in remote areas create changes that affect us where we live oil embargos embargoes em bargos economic crises the rise and fall of governments earthquakes whose tremors shake us though they are half a world away suffering that we seem to sense social and psychological changes ch na at the the roots of life causing us to reassess our own sense of values religious beliefs that we no c afes nfes fonger onger believe political policies and systems in which confidence is ebbing prophetic warnings everywhere what a way to begin a letter especially when we all know that above and beyond all this metamorphosis a still small voice keeps telling us that there is something eternally good and sound and certain beneath the temporarily unstable what I 1 really started to say is that this particular issue of OUTREACH deals with something which to many people symbolizes the unmoveable unloveable and changeless I 1 mean MOUNTAINS my minicalculator mini calculator tells me that mountains are mentioned in the bible five hundred and thirtyone thirty one times I 1 have a hunch that mountains have been mentioned even oftener than that in conversions lorena and I 1 have had since we began living together all kinds of mountains for more than twentyfive twenty five summers we spent most of our time in or among mountains whenever we go on research trips mountains play a part it was usually lorena who mentioned mountains though I 1 also had a response to them or should have had since my forebears lived in the alps so when in the midst of a seeming impermanence in the world at large it occurred to me that it might be helpful to lift our eyes to the mountains by way of an OUTREACH issue I 1 said to lorena you do it and she replied okay so here it is and lets turn to it now a lesson titled r SPIRITUAL understanding BY WAY OF MOUNTAINS yours for the fellowship
