OUTREACH EA af &f the newsletter of ade 7de 7 7emmdo etuiifr 51 56 sfrictaat 56eiaaat zt4u neutcmcuhf iewattomt 9 wa w9 W w www MARCUS BACH founder NO 148 THE LETTER dear friend of the fellowship A large lovely calendar hangs on our office wall a gift from friends in japan who every year send us one of these tapestrylike tapestry like works of art it differs from ordinary calendars in that it has six pages instead of twelve each page is devoted to two months and above the months a masterpiece painting is the center of attraction we were told that it is highly unethical ever to look at the other pages in in advance translated this means you must discipline yourself not to be snoopy or sneak a preview of the yettocome yet to come paintings that are covered up it might even invite bad luck if you so much as took a peep at the months ahead currently the masterwork on the page depicts a gentle photogenic quail perched on a stone 21 4 5 p planter lanter in a japanese garden in fact the title of aa 3a 5 6 7 8 9 the picture is the garden after rain everything 12 U 14 22 IS 16 23 in the scene draws us into a reflective mood and in the rain raindampened ampened dampened planter the quail spies an image of itself several white camellia petals are lazily drifting to earth from graceful branches against the translucent sky delicate soft graygreen gray green tones create a magical spell that seems to be saying peace be still the picture is is a real tranquilizer but I 1 can hardly wait to see what the next painting will be like I 1 shouldnt say that on the contrary I 1 could live with this picture for a long time it tells me that life is like a calendar enjoying the present curious about the future gratefully remembering the past putting it all together the known and the unknown the seen and the yet to be revealed which brings us to this issue of OUTREACH you see our previous issue dealt with the topic HAVE WE ACTUALLY LIVED BEFORE your reception of it was marvelous exceeding our highest expectations many of you requested additional copies quantity copies copies to be sent to friends and so on all of which persuaded me to prepare part two which is now in in your hands yes life is a calendar sometimes saying no peeping enjoy the NOW life is often the garden after rain but life is also a river of time and we are interested in both its tributaries and its source no less than seeing in it our own reflection so lets turn once more to the quizzical and fascinating question HAVE WE ACTUALLY livedzefore LIVED BEFORE ZEFORE yours for the fellowship abc den aec
