OUTREACH UT REA mek pek the newsletter of 7 etuiifr XT sfriituat undctem vmtoutimm MARCUS BACH founder NO 169 THE LETTER dear friend of the fellowship sometime when you have time for quiet reflection find a calm and quiet spot and think back on how many socalled so called chance experiences changed the direction of your life or helped give your life direction or influenced you or left an unforgettable impression think about some of the unexpected good things or the seemingly bad things that turned out to be good look back to the event look forward to what eventually resulted from the encounter think particularly of someone who crossed your path in an honesttogoodness honest to goodness serendipitous dip itous meeting wouldnt it be fun to send that person a note lord knows we already have enough holidays and holy days and special days in our calendar year even the greeting card companies must be hard pressed to keep up with the national religious seasonal personal impersonal cultural ethical days from ground hog day to the ides of march who wants another day I 1 do CHANCE DAY why to honor those who like the good samaritan or the good anybody who came along at just the right time by divine appointment and to honor ourselves for remembering the meeting with gratitude also to pay respect to the three princes of serendip serendib Seren dip who in the lovely fable of long ago added serendipity to our vocabulary and taught us to accept the unexpected with insight and serenity and greater trust in god what day would I 1 suggest august 7 why well it seems to me I 1 read somewhere or heard someone say or someone told me that someone had told him or her that it was on on august 7 that the three princes returned to their fathers house after having run away and vagabonded all over the world encountering count cring ering many wonderful serendipitous happenings
