OUTREACH the newsletter of odale o7ale 7 57cmd&a etucfr ar 6r t saeoteraae sfacctaai hcutawjiut fftewitcmt MARCUS BACH founder no no198 198 THE LETTER dear friend of the fellowship praise the lord for the rose parade its 95th presentation on the day after new year 1984 was as always a masterwork of creativity imagination and impeccable art often when I 1 travel in foreign countries and see the handiwork of geniuses of the past ancient architecture timeless paintings wonders of the world such as the great wall of china the temples of angor the pillars of baalbek Ba albek the taj mahal the pyramids the jeweled artifacts of the mayan culture I 1 keep asking where are the descendants of these longago long ago artisans where did these civilizations go without leaving traces of their talents in others that followed them the rose parade consistently assures us at the beginning of each new calendar year that given the proper incentive hidden skills from nations all around the world and unan unkn unknown own geniuses from every state in the union are very much a part of the culture of our time true the incredible floats are not built to outwit time or to last very long when compared to temples and citadels of old the billions of flower petals herbs grains seeds and grasses that go into the making of birds butterflies bees and wildlife are all ephemeral we are watching a passing parade some two and a half hours in length then the floats are on display for three or four days the flowers fade the mechanisms computers energizers and maze of wires gears and mindboggling mind boggling secret systems are stored or tossed away and often disposed of so that theensuing the ensuing years will generate their own innovations but once every year on a colossal scale we are alerted to something superconscious that exists in the collective unconscious of humankind viewed by millions upon millions of enthralled spectators the rose parade message that consistently comes through to me keeps saying what if we could harness this creativity for parades of peace and global good will what if we could persuade the missile makers and the geniuses behind the weaponization of the world to spend their time talent and uncounted resources to replenish the earth with methods for feeding the hungry helping the oppressed through humanitarian means and bringing leaders together for negotiations other than the struggle for power through the many years that I 1 have been thrilled by the pasadena spectacular my persistent response has been let it be known as more than a mere parade let life be like this yours for the fellowship L
