Bannack City, Beaver Head
County Montana. Territory.
Jan. 30th 1865
My Friends;
As many of you,
no doubt, will read this journal
I think it proper to add a few
facts concerning this country. The
difficulty is to do justice to the
subject in such a small space
as I am compelled to use
for want of time.
Bannack City is in latitude
45°. North situated in Grasshopper
creek -- so called by the miners on
account of the immense swarms
of that insect here the first year
of the gold discovery, but called by
Clark and Lewis Willard's Creek.

Dunlap also mentions meeting several disillusioned Mormons. Dunlap's husband served as captain of the company and hired several men to assist them with their teams. Dunlap writes about her duties as cook and laundress for the company. The item ends with a description of conditions in Montana. |
