Dear Sister
I have said all along that I was going
will
to send my journall Home And now that I have
som lesure & a good place to write I will commence
task
the ardues task although agreeable,, It will benafit me
in several ways in penmanship & composition as I have
only minutely carried sketched the rant as I passed along
I shall enlarge & beautify it to the best of my abilities
Interduction To Edwin R Birds Journal
In furnishing my friends with this journal, I shall try
to write is so as to interest them. Not professing to be
a writer, I request & expect that they will make due alowance
section of
The “ country through which I shall pass will furnish
plenty of material which might adorn a journal Evry City
Town Main River or mountain of importance upon the
whole raught Comencing at Naperville, Ill through to
California Togather with evry days occurance I shall
repersent to the very best of my abilates
Monday April 10th 1854

& stormey morning. This being the day fixed upon for
a start it cast a gloom over our hearts expected joys
