              wn adwin Q deg beat beg jr COMMITTEE ON AMERICAN LIBRARY RESOURCES ON THE FAR EAST OF THE association FOR ASIAN STUDIES june 15 1965 edwin G beal jr co orientalia division chairman library of congress washington D C 2050 20540 newsletter no 9 2 .2 I 1 chinese materials and research aids service center at our meeting in san francisco on april 3 1965 various members ofthe odthe of the committee stated that while insofar as their own institutions were concerned they believed that this center was doing a very good job they did not have enough information concerning the centers activities as a whole to have any well based opinion as to what contribution the center was making or what its relationship to the association is or should be it happens thatshortly that shortly before the annual meeting of the association mr mro amro irick had written a very informative summary report which was dated march buo 7uo 24 1 I have secured the permission of professor albert feuerwerker chairman of the centers executivecommittee executive committee to release the following paragraphs from this report in the hope they may be of interest to the full committee the chinese government has officially approved the center we have as required been registered as a publishing company and a license has been received in order to retain the license we must publish within six months I 1 have sought and acquired permission from the harvard yenching benching institute toreprint to reprint all volumes in its index and supplement series except those that havebeen have been reprinted in japan and at harvard if the committee approves this will be our first publishing effort under our own imprint the total cost for reprinting 300 copies will be US usu7620 us1476420 1476420 USU 7620 each set will retail at 2500 24500 2500 25.00 24500 245.00 plus postage in order to raise the funds for reprinting the center will offer a prepublication price of 200.00 20000 per set sale of 63 complete sets plus 2500.00 250000 which harvard yenching benching has offered to purchase chasefor cha sefor for distribution in in the far east will finance the project unless we receive near this number of orders from prepublication advertisements the project to reprint all volumes will have to be reconsidered it may be feasible to reprint only those volumes that are in great demand upon receipt of the committees decision an announcement of the project will be mailed to all receiving the book lists
