owna amna pwna vin win tin so litt aoctakon a550ciaticin iga 104 ont ott ASIAN sluik 51uik &1uuiia NC INC COMMITTEE ON EAST ASIAN LIBRARIES yukihisa suzuki cha oha chairman irm an co graduate school of library studies university of hawaii 2425 campus road honolulu hawaii 96822 newsletter 110 iko 31 october 30 1969 AAS newsletter the newsletter of the association for asian studies initiated a new section entitled doctoraldissertations doctoral dissertations in its may 1969 issue and with the most recent october issue the section sectio seccio n has been expanded in two significant directions henceforth the recti s actin octin n will include titles of relevant dissertations that are IN PROGRESS progr&ss and of RECENTLY COMPLETED theses at all american universities imm ift including luding the jniversity university of chicago harvard university and M I 1 T as well as items of interest appearing in current issues of dissertation abstracts furthermore every effort will be made to 7 incorporate information about doctor doctoril doctor41 doctoral docto rai ril ral 41 research at institutions outside the united states the october issue alone includes 33 titles received through the courtesy of informants at oxford university and the university of london the indian school of international L studies in new delhi india the australian national university in canberra and the university of warsaw poland and the december listing will include several more from these same institutions as well as additional ones from the un iversity university diversity iver lver sity of vienna austria and from a number of canadian dutch british and german schools this section of doctoral dissertation listings is being compiled with the primary objective of keeping faculty members graduate student students sj and university librarians informed of some of the latest academic scholarship within the field it is the hope of 0 the AAS ars hrs ius lus that the column will quickly become the authoritative source for information about current theses relating to all aspects of east south and southeast asian studies it is more than obvious however that the success of any section such as this one ultimately rests on the full coooeration conueration cooperation of people in the field of asian studies the editor will be most grateful to receive information at any time about dissertations in progress and about recently completed theses at institutions within the united states and abroad all contributions should be sent directly to frank J shulman center for japanese studies 108 lane hall the university of michigan ann arbors arbor michigan 48104
