I had driven past this old fruit stand before, and wanted to get some photos of it.. It had
obviously been quite successful at one time, as it had a neon sign ( which is still there but
of course not working.) It is located'at 1435 North State Street in Orem., It still has,
display stands on its front porch, and lots. of rusted shopping carts and machinery . around
to the side, and back. There is an old double sink in the back. The windows have
blowing torn plastic in them, which gives it an especially forlorn feeling, I think— there is
still movement arid you can see inside in some places, so it's even more striking that it is
abandoned. , - ' , • .
Next door is the horri'e and mailbox of Lawrence Shirhada, so I ' m guessing either he- was
the owner or a relative of the owner. Sarah and I knocked on the door, but ho one
answered: We thought-. we might try to call to see if anyone, would talk to us.. It's
intriguing that it is still there, with apricot trees in the back still, and lots of old
equipment. I'd like to find out more if possible.. . ; . ' -
We left there at around 3: 45 and made s our wayfurther west to another big tent stand.
