preached at Lin lincolns lincoins Lincol coIns ns inne I1 COR 15.50 1550 NOW THIS I1 SAY BRETHREN THAT FLESHAND FLESH AND BLOOD CANNOT INHERIT THE KINGDOME OF GOD t AINT IAINT GREGORY hath delivered this story that eutychius Euty chius who was bishop of constantinople having written a book of the y resurrection and therein maintained that errour ermour that the body of christ had not that our bodies in the resurrection should not have any of the qualities of a natural naturall body but that those bodies were in subtilitatem redacta redacta so rarifyed so refined so attenuated and reduced to a thinnesse phinnesse thinnesse and subtlenesse subtlenesse that they were aerybodies dery aery defy bodies and not bodies of flesh and blood this error made a great noise and raised a great dust till the emperour empereur Emperour to avoid scandall which for the most part arises out of publick conferences was pleased to hear eutychius eutychlus Euty eucy chius chlus and gregory dispute this point privately before himself and a small company and that upon conference the emperour empereur Emperour was so well satisfyed satisfy satisfied ed that hee commanded eutychius Euty chius his books to bee burnt that after this both gregory and eutychius Euty chius fell sicke but eutychius Euty chius dyed and dyed with this protestation in hac carne inin this flesh taking up the flesh of his hand in the presence of them that were there in this flesh I1 acknowledge that I1 and all men shall arise at the day of judgement Judgement now the principall principale principall place of scripture which in his book and in that conference eutychius Euty chius stood upon was this text these words of saint paul this I1 say brethren that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingcome kingdome Kingdome of god and the directest directest answer that gregory gave to it was caro secundus secundum secundum culham culpam non regnabit regnabit sed caro secundus secundum secundum natural naturam naturam sinfull sinfully flesh shall not but naturall naturale naturall flesh that is flesh indued indeed with all qualities of flesh all such qualities as imply no defect no corruption for there was flesh be 1
