preached upon christmas day 1629 162 JOHN 10.10 1010 lolo lam IAM I1 AM COME THAT THEY MIGHT HA HAVE VE LIFE AND THAT THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE IT moreabundantly MORE MOKE abundantly HE CHURCH celebrates this day the birth of our lord and THE Tsaviourchristjesusblessedforeverandthoughitfall amongst the shortest dayes in the yeere beere yet of all the festivals in the yeere beere it is the longest it is a day that consists of twelve dayes A day not measured by the naturall naturale naturall and ordinary motion of the sun but by a supernaturall supernaturally and extraordinary star which appeared to the wisemen of the east this day and brought them to christ at bethlem upon twelfe twelve day that day twelfe twelve day the church now calls the epiphany the ancient church called this day christmas day the epiphany both dayes together and all the dayes betweene betweene this day when christ was manifested to the jews in the shepheards Shepheards by the angels and twelfe twelve day when christ was manifested to the gentiles in those wisemen of the east make up the epiphany that is the manifestation of god to man and as this day is in such a respect a longer day then others so if we make longer houres boures in this day then in other dayes if I1 extend this sermon if you extend your devo- tion or your patience beyond the ordinary time it is but a due and a just celebration of the day and some accommodation to the text for I1 am come as he in whose name and power I1 come came and he teis you that he came that you might haveline havelife had have hav leveelife life ilfe and might have it more abundantly god who vouchsafed to be made man for man for man vouchsafes also to doe all the offices of man towards man he is our father for I1
