[1] John Stillman Woodbury , Private Journal March 13 th 1851 I took leave of Father Mother Brothers, Sisters & many kind friends, & started on the mission to whitch I had been appointed to the Pacific Islands . Started with an ox team and wagon. Traveld in company with W m J. Perkins to Peteetnete where we campt & waited for the company to all get togather & organise Br. Parley Parley P. Pratts company of missionaries Here we met with Elder Parley P. Pratt who had been appointed President of the Pacific mission, and quite a number of others going on missions to the Islands , Australia & South America , and A large company going to form a colony in South -ern California . We wer here met by Prest's Young & W who came out to assist in organise ing the company & to give the necessary counsel, instructions &c While here some of our cattle strayed off & we had some trouble in hunting them

Woodbury comments on visits from Mormon Church Apostles and writes about leaving Utah for Hawaii during the Mormon "Reformation" in 1857 and being called to return to face the approach of the U.S. Army. |
