Description	Written by Miss Nightingale's sister, Parthenope (Lady Verney) and sent to Florence to cheer her up during her serious illness at Balaclava. It is the story of an owl, picked up in Athens, who became Florence's devoted pet until it died a day or two before her departure for the Crimea.--Cf. Magee bibliography, p. 79. "This editor suspects a very small edition was issued--possibly less than fifty copies--for private distribution to members of the Nightingale family and a few intimate friends."--Cf. David Magee's foreword in Grabhorn-Hoyem's 1970 reprint copy of this work. Original drawings of Florence Nightingale presumably by her sister, the author. T.p., text and illustrations are lithographic facsimile of a manuscript. The illustrations have been touched up with sepia wash, pen and pencil, and shading added.
