THE LATEST FROM UTAH—THE MORMONS ABANDONING SALT LAKE.
The mail which left the City of Salt Lake on the 19th of June arrived at St. Joseph (Mo.) on the 7th instant.
The Peace Commissioners, Messrs. POWELL and Mc-CULLOUGH, had arrived safely. Young and the rest of the Mormons, with the exception of some forty or fifty, had evacuated the city and gone south to Provo. The city looked almost completely deserted. Peace had been agreed upon, but on what terms our informant was un-able to learn.
On the 20th the mail party met Gen. JOHNSTON and his command at Echo Canon, about ten miles this side of Weber river. The command was stretched out on the road for more than a mile in length; met Gen. HARNEY and command encamped just beyond Fort Laramie; Col. MAY and command thirty-five miles this side of Laramie; met a large body of infantry at Ash Hollow. Major EMORY was encamped on the Big Blue; met another command at Fort Kearny.
The St. Louis Republican's Utah correspondent writes on the 18th that the conditions agreed upon in the con-ference between Governor Cumming, the Peace Commis-sioners, and the Mormon leaders, are, that the troops shall enter the city without opposition; the civil officers are to be allowed to perform their duties without inter-ruption ; and an unconditional obedience to the laws on the part of the resident population. On the other hand, all the past offences of the Mormons are to be forgotten, as stated in the President's proclamation, and all houses are to be closed against strangers, except the one occu-pied by the Governor and his assistants.
