UTAH. Comments on the Cullum Bill.
SALT LAKK CITY, March 24.—The News, speak-ing of the passage of the Cullom bill by the House, says, "the striking out of the five sec-tions rids it of several of its most repulsive fea-tures. They were too strong for Congress to swallow. Many thought that the House would never pass this bill in any form, and that its being a clear invasion of the Constitution would kill it.
We cannot say what the Senate will do with it, but this we can say if it passes and then should receive the signature of the President and be-come a law, it will not meet the wishes or answer the expectations of its authors. Personally we care not what action be taken. Persecution drove us from township to township and soon to a Territory.
It has made us strong, thrifty and fearless, and the most valuable experience we possess to-day we gained through persecution, and we do not dread its effects. If men wish to push Mormon-ism ahead, let them persecute it. Pass the Cul-lom bill, and if this fails raise armies and attempt to fight, drive and exterminate, and then watch the result. If the bill should pass the Senate, and be signed by the Executive, we may then discuss its merits and probable effect.
