Scarcity of Wagon Transportation.
Our merchants are finding it exceedingly difficult to get their goods hauled from the railroad to Helena. Except to fulfill con- tracts, freighters are very scarce and freights have gone up. The Diamond "R." and the Benton trains are all busy at Assinniboine and from Benton to the British Forts. Murphy & Neel's and Kirkendall's trains, and some others are hauling ores at Glendale and Butte. Transportation is advertised for 800 tons of ore from Radersburgh to Wickes. All our mines, saw-mill men, and grain-raisers are employing every team that can be got, and merchants find them scarce. The Mormons have almost ceased to haul freight into Mon- tana, from the end of the railroad. They get too far from home. The advance of the railroad has given employment to all of our freighters. The developments of mines, and the the improved river have caused great demand for wagon freights than ever. With the com- pletion of the railroad into the heart of Mon- tana, vastly more wagon transportation will be required hereafter.
