Measuring the circumference of the earth are members of an astronomy class ar Ricks College. The Physical Education Department recently sponsored a run around the world in 80 days and the class is using a method used by the Egyptians to measure the distance. The angle between the horizontal and the sun is measured at noon on the same day in Rexburg and at Springville, Utah which is very near the same longitude as Rexburg. The distance to Springville is known, and the difference in degrees is used to find the latitide which can be calculated to find the circumference. Measurements and calculations were done by Layne Jensen, left, Michael Carver, Susan Tidwell, and Dan Miller, Keeling, with Professor Gordon Dixon. Faculty. Staff.
