MORMON EXODUS REPORTED.—The Philadelphia North American says: "It is currently reported, upon authority for which we are not responsible, that Brigham Young has purchased two of the Sandwich Islands, to which he proposes to remove and take the disciples with him. If the report is correct, it is the most welcome news since the close of the rebellion. The Mormon faith and govern-ment, occupying a strange relation to religion and law, and highly offensive to nearly every one in the country, held such a position that they could not well be assailed by legal methods, and grew to such an offensiveness that they could not well be tolerated. The saints were driven from Nauvoo for notorious offences, and in their retreat at Des-eret, while building a city and thriving in their business, have been disloyal, insolent and hostile to those enterprises which, if unmolested, would have done as much to improve the territory as Brigham’s followers have done. Each succeeding year must have created more difficulties between the Mormons and the people and Government, un-til it is evident the former would have been forced to emigrate again. If they go now beyond our borders, we shall be able to add to the collect for thanksgiving an acknowledgment for the destruc-tion of our two most offensive national crimes at nearly the same moment—slavery and polygamy."
