Later from Camp Scott.
ST. LOUIS, June 26; The Republican has just received intelligence that the Salt Lake mail, with Camp Scott dates of June 5, was received at St. Joseph on the 22d. Mr. H. F . Mayer, who accompanied the mail party, furnishes the following memoranda of the trip: En-countered a heavy snowstorm, lasting three days, from Independence Rock to Platte Bridge; met Col. Hoffman 20 and Capt. Marcy 60 miles from Camp Scott. Gen. Johnston intends to proceed to Salt Lake City as soon as they arrive: Gov. Cumming, the Peace Commissioners, and the Postmaster had gone into the city.
The supplies which Col. Hoffman dispatched in ad-vance of his train had reached Camp Scott, and pro-visions were plenty.
June 12. Left McCarty's train unloading at Fort Laramie; met Perry's train 15 miles below the Fort same day; met another of Perry's trains 45 miles be-low the Fort.
Passed two empty trains of Major's and Russell's at Scott's Bluffs, returning to the States. Met McRea's a train 10 miles below Chimney Rock.
Passed two trains, Chouteau and Avery's, and Ma-jor's and Russell's, in camp at Lavant's Fork. On the 14th, met the Quarter master for Laramie at Rush Creek, and Price's train at Smith's Fork.
On the 17th, left two trains of Major's and Russell's, waiting to cross the South Fork, which was high but falling. Met Major Sedgewick's command sixteen miles below South Fork on the 16th.
Met Graham's Dragoons ten miles and Ward's train fifteen miles below Fallon's Bluff. Passed several trains off the road in camp, names unknown. Met Capt. Roberts' command six miles above Cottonwood Springs on the 17th. Met Hays' train thirty miles be-low Cottonwood. Met Col. Monroe ten miles above Plume Creek; also three trains of Jones'.
On the 18th, met Irwin and Young's train, eight miles above Fort Kearney. Left three companies 1st cavalry under Col. Sumner at Kearney. Saw three trains on the upper road above, and two more on the upper road below Kearney, names unknown.
On the 19th, met a train on the Eighth-mile Stretch on Light Blue, name unknown. On the 20th, met Rush's train four miles from the Big Sandy. Met. Col. May and 600 head of beef cattle for Salt Lake; also 900 cattle of Russell & Waddell, and Douglass, fifteen miles east of the Big Blue. Met Lehoars train, and Gen. Harney at headquarters at the Cotto-nwood ten miles west of the Big Blue. Harney was travelling rapidly, and only that day had learned of his appoint-ment to the vacant Brigadier General ship. On the 21st, met the Salt Lake mail fifteen miles east of the Big Blue, Wasson & Dyer's train in company, at Ver-million. On the 22d, met three trains at Grasshopper, names unknown. The grass never was better as far as Sweetwater-from there to Camp Scott it was very poor.
All the trains and troops are getting along well, the cattle looking in fine order. Hockaday, Jones & Co., mail contractors, were pushing their arrangements with great energy and perseverance. When they get the stations arranged as contemplated, the time will be reduced to sixteen days with ease.
Mr. Mayer brings no general news from Camp Scott or Salt Lake.
