Utah Conquered.
If we may believe the statements now flooding the wires from Utah by way of Leavenworth, the rebellious Mormons have been conquered and "peace restored to our distracted frontier," without so much as the firing of a single gun. A private let-ter received at Fort Leavenworth recently by Col. Rich, corroborates the statement that Brigham Young and all the Mormon leaders have fled to the mountains, that Gov. Cumming had entered Salt Lake, and that the army was ready for immediate ac-tion in any case of emergency. It is strange that so much should have been accomplish-ed without a syllable of information thereof having reached the Government in an offi-cial form. Perhaps it will be as well not to attach too much importance to these rumors yet. If true they must be confirm-ed.
It is said that the Government intends keeping a large force at Salt Lake, even if the Mormons emigrate, and will make Salt Lake City a depot for military stores. The trains now on their way will accordingly proceed. It appears that the Government adopts the Mormon idea that Salt Lake is a good place for Infantry.
