Of Native American/New England descent, Bruchac was committed to accurately portraying Squanto and the everyday life of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people of the 1600s. Shed’s gouache illustrations glow with warm blends of Thanksgiving colors browns, golds, oranges, and yellows. It is nice to know that the beauty of the illustrations is supported by accuracy. Squanto is definitely one to buy for next Thanksgiving or a biography collection.
