Tissot, John. Aesop's Clinic. I.E. Clark, 1999. ISBN 0-88680-455-8. 12 pp. A- 1-6 PB Reviewed by Harold R. Oaks Aesop has yet to attain his fame in this short dramatization, but he is clearly on his way. He sets up a clinic to explore the problems of some animals in his area. Each animal tells his story, and Aesop writes it down. His assistant usually adds a cryptic “moral” that summarizes what has occurred or what can be learned from the experience. The writing is smooth, the characters adequate, and the placement of the classic sayings effective. Staging would be simple (suggestions are included), costume pieces could suggest the animals, and the casting requires only 9 (1 M, rest either male or female). This would be an excellent class project, perhaps done by an upper grade for a lower one.
