Description	This image illustrates the concept of the solid wheel as it might have looked when first invented. “Wheel” refers to a circular frame of hard material that may be solid, partly solid, or spoked and that is capable of turning on an axle. Wheels were invented very early in human history and a Sumerian pictograph, dated about 3500 BC, depicts a sledge equipped with wheels. The oldest known wheels were wooden disks consisting of three carved planks clamped together by transverse struts. Spoked wheels seemed to have first appeared around 2000 BC, when they were used on chariots in Asia Minor.
