Description	Albrecht Dürer was the first artist in Northern Europe to produce numerous self-portraits throughout his life that reflect his artistic and professional development. This self-portrait demonstrates Dürer’s early style that employed soft, painterly brushstrokes and stark contrasts between the dark background and the figure’s pale body. The romanticism of this portrayal is emphasized by his unbound, flowing hair, loose-fitting clothes and his gentle fondling of the root and flower of the Eryngium. Albrecht Dürer's youthful self-portrait depicts the artist's skill at the young age of twenty-two.
