Description	Albrecht Dürer, one of the leading artists during the Germany Renaissance and Reformation, is celebrated for his innovative work in painting, drawing, the graphic arts, and theoretical writings on art. This image is an example of the detailed preparatory brush drawings that the artist would often execute. This study of praying hands is the most famous of a number of preliminary sketches made for a painting commissioned by Jacob Heller, a merchant of Frankfurt, for the altar of Saint Thomas in the Dominican church. The sketch, presumably made for the hands of an apostle, display Dürer’s attention to minute details and an approach based on careful observation of the natural world, as evidence by his skillful depiction of the nimble fingers, and delicate veins and skin.
