Biographical Note |
Originally from from Kentucky. Journeyed west to join his brother in Eagle Rock, Idaho Territory, following service in the Confedrate Army during the Civil War. Store and bank owner in Idaho, eventually returned to the eastern states. |

Summary/Description |
The John C. Anderson journal recounts his journey from St. Louis, Missouri, to Virginia City, Montana. in 1866. His journey followed the Daily Overland Mail road. The diary consists of two volumes, one a firsthand account and the other a rewritten version of the first. |
