In November 1856, four young men carried members of the Martin Handcart Company across the Sweetwater River in freezing conditions. This site near Martin's Cove, Wyoming is the approximate area where that event took place. A marker at the site lists the young men as: George W. Grant, C. A. Huntington, David P. Kimball, and Stephen W. Taylor. These brave individuals suffered greatly from the effects of that ordeal.
