Nestled between the cliffs of Glen Canyon to the northeast and Marble Canyon to the southwest, the site known as Lee's Ferry was the only place to cross the Colorado River for hundreds of miles. Originally discovered by Latter-day Saint Jacob Hamblin, the site was eventually settled by John D. Lee who operated a ferry across the river for a number of years. Lee's Ferry made the colonization of Arizona possible. It was an important part of the Honeymoon Trail, a route taken by Latter-day Saints of eastern Arizona to the temple in St. George, Utah. This view shows the approximate site where travelers crossed the river and continued to the right on the road on the opposite side of the water.
