As the trail west led the Saints along the North Platte River near what is now Bridgeport, Nebraska, several striking natural landmarks came into view. Two of these were Jail Rock and Courthouse Rock. Approaching 400 feet in heighth, these stone monuments are located about six miles south of the river. Jail Rock is the one on the left.
