Notes	"It is obvious that Zane Grey possessed that magnetism which draws and compels people to read his works. This quality is elusive, and difficult to define; also it cannot be taught in any fashion. Technique maybe, but the ability of a creative writer to hold his public is apparently inborn, some magic the author brews with the words he puts down, the fashion in which he delivers his thoughts, carrying his readers along in a grand sweep to the end...You will find Grey's novels on practically every library shelf today, and there are few people, young or old, who haven't heard his name...The Western novel ahs changed in format since he wrote it. The pace has picked up, and a writer who hopes to sell one cannot afford the leisurely, if interesting, wealth of detail and slower buildup found in many of Zane Grey's works. Still, an analysis shows the same elements, a protagonist who holds the reader's sympathy an interest, and antagonist who provides conflict, conflict between Good and Evil. Color, setting, character, tension and other qualities are mixed in to round out the finished product."
