Whitney collection of poems written by others; Winslow Whitney Smith papers; Photographs; The letters from 1881 to 1883 deal with many of the problems and successes Elder Whitney encountered in the European Mission, as well as the welfare and activities of his family in Utah while he was gone.; The correspondence from 1883 to 1890 reveals many of the emotions and injustices which the Latter-day Saints felt during the anti-polygamy campaign under the Edmunds-Tucker Act. Whitney was one of the framers of the Declaration of Grievances and Proteststhat was issued in 1885. He was active in the campaign against the Edmunds-Tucker Laws. Letters from Orson's good friend Joseph F. Smith reveal many of the disappointments and tribulations suffered by the leading brethren as a result of their involvement in the practice of plural marriage.; The folder contains letters written in 1906 reflect the nature of the responsibilities of an apostle and contain many items of official Church business, as well as several doctrinal interpretations given by Elder Whitney in response to gospel questions.; In 1914 Elder Whitney visited Nauvoo and Carthage, Illinois, and reported the trip to the First Presidency.; In 1921, Elder Whitney was called to preside over the European Mission for two years. Whitney's father-in-law; birthday postcard sent from Orson F. Whitney in England to his son Heber; prayer given at funeral of Paul Whitney, Orson F. Whitney's youngest son, given by George D. Pyper, brother-in-law of Orson F. Whitney.; The folder includes keepsakes, letters, and poems. Helen had cards and a woven envelope that she made or they were given to her. Louisa Beaman was the first plural wife sealed to Joseph Smith. The Beamon envelope had contained a "relic." Some items are undated, others range in dates from 1847-1866. Helen's letter to Horace is signed, "I am your true and affectionate Helen, both now and forever."; The folder contains a letter to Heber C. Kimball, maternal grandfather of Orson F. Whitney, from James Ferguson, from whom Orson Whitney got his middle name. Orson preserved this letter.; The folder contains a letter to John Henry Smith from his son Nicholas G. Smith regarding John Henry's testimony at the Smoot hearings. In the letter Nicholas mentions Winslow Farr Smith, his brother and later a son-in-law of Orson F. Whitney.; The folder contains The Land of Shinehah, a published poem of Orson F. Whitney; a booklet written by Theodore Curtis as a tribute to mothers. Included are poems, songs, photos of Orson F. Whitney and his mother, and a story about her and a newspaper clipping about Orson F. Whitney.; The folder contains one poem of unknown authorship and two poems by Mrs. Sell M.
