DescriptionAllen Hall proved so successful as a student residence that immediate steps were taken to construct another one--Amanda Knight Hall, named in honor of the wife of Jesse Knight. The $100,000 residence for ninety women was built from money obtained from the Jesse Knight Endowment Fund and is located at Eighth North and University Avenue. Professor Effie Warnick was the first "dorm mother" when the building was occupied in March, 1939. It was operated as a cooperative unit where the girls assisted in the housework and in the kitchen. It was taken over later by the LDS Church's Language Training Mission.
